As part of its continuous monitoring of the legal developments related to key human rights cases in Egypt, the Committee for Justice (CFJ) has released its weekly bulletin summarizing updates on major cases. The bulletin, published via its political case agenda, was designed to facilitate access to information on the dates of hearings and the latest developments in human rights cases in a simplified format. The updates for the period from February 1 to 6, 2025, are as follows:

Case Name: Attack on the Three Pyramids Hotel
o Date: Saturday, February 1, 2025
o Location: Courts Complex, Badr Prison Compound
o Details: The First Circuit of the Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Mohamed Said El-Sherbiny, postponed the retrial of Mahmoud Abdelkader Ali Saad in the case of the terrorist attack on the Three Pyramids Hotel. The court set the next hearing for May 3, 2025, for the verdict.

Case Name: Al-Badrashein Protest Events

o Details: The First Circuit of the Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Mohamed Said El-Sherbiny, postponed the retrial of Mahmoud Ahmed Abdel-Aty Saleh in the case known as “Al-Badrashein Protest Events.” The court scheduled the next session for May 3, 2025, for the verdict.

Case Name: Al-Hadayeq Cell – Revolutionary Core Cell
o Date: Saturday, February 1, 2025

o Details: The First Circuit of the Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Mohamed Said El-Sherbiny, issued its verdict in Case No. 5314 of 2023 (Al-Hadayeq), registered as Case No. 41 of 2023 under State Security Crimes, known as the “Revolutionary Core Cell” case.
Death sentence by hanging for Mahmoud Mohamed Fathy Badr and Ahmed Hesham Badr Abdo Khodr (both fugitives).
Life imprisonment for four Muslim Brotherhood members: Mahmoud Afraj Ahmed Abu Shenb, Mahmoud Fouad Mohamed Badada, Ayman Mostafa Ahmed Mohamed Abbas, and Mabrouk Mohamed Mohamed Ajeen (all in custody).
The court ordered five years of ideological rehabilitation for the sentenced individuals (except those sentenced to death) and placed them under five years of police supervision after their release.
The convicted individuals and the affiliated Revolutionary Armed Groups of the Muslim Brotherhood were listed on Egypt’s list of terrorist entities and individuals.

Case Name: Al-Nozha Cell

o Details: The First Circuit of the Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Mohamed Said El-Sherbiny, postponed the retrial of Ahmed Rabie Mahmoud Shaaban, who had previously received a life sentence in absentia in Case No. 7449 of 2022 (Al-Nozha), known as the “Al-Nozha Cell” case. The court set the next hearing for March 1, 2025, for case review.

o Details: The First Circuit of the Criminal Court sentenced Sohaib Alaa Abdel Moneim (30, graphic designer) to three years in prison for joining a terrorist group in Case No. 10832 of 2023 (Omraneya).
The court also listed him and the affiliated Muslim Brotherhood group on Egypt’s list of terrorist entities and individuals.
