Geneva – The Executive Director of the Committee for Justice (CFJ), Ahmed Mefreh, held a constructive meeting in Geneva with Radwan Nouicer, the United Nations-designated Expert on the human rights situation in Sudan, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the areas of documentation and accountability.

The meeting addressed opportunities to strengthen coordination between the UN mandate and civil society organizations engaged in documenting violations, producing legal analyses, and supporting accountability processes. The two sides also discussed current priorities, mechanisms to improve the protection of victims and witnesses, and the importance of enhancing the quality and structure of case files submitted to UN mechanisms to ensure their effectiveness and impact.

CFJ reaffirmed its commitment to submitting well‑documented case files grounded in solid legal foundations in support of the UN mandate’s reporting. The organization also emphasized the importance of improving coordination between UN mechanisms and African regional human rights bodies, as well as ensuring that survivors’ voices are incorporated into practical and actionable recommendations within the framework of the Human Rights Council.

Both parties underscored that the continuation of violations in Sudan and the fragility of existing accountability processes require sustained cooperation between independent UN mandates and credible civil society organizations—cooperation that can help transform monitoring and documentation efforts into tangible outcomes that advance justice and accountability.

CFJ expressed its willingness to continue technical collaboration and coordination in support of victims and in pursuit of strengthening principles of justice and accountability in Sudan.
