During this session, it was decided to adjourn the retrial proceedings of the defendant Yasser Hussein Mohamed Mohamed in Case No. 1039 of 2016, Supreme State Security. This case is widely recognized in the media as Wilayat Sinai 3 (Islamic State – Sinai Province). The new session for review is scheduled for September 30.
Yasser Hussein Mohamed, who is currently undergoing retrial procedures, had previously been sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment on March 9, 2020. The case involved a group of 12 defendants who were charged by the prosecution with various offenses, including joining the terrorist organization “ISIS- Daesh” and planning to carry out terrorist operations, most notably targeting the headquarters of the Supreme State Security Prosecution.
In the initial trial, the court found 7 defendants guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment. These individuals were identified as Osama Ismail Ibrahim Sarhan, Mohamed Eid Kamel Abdel Fattah El-Shimi, Ahmed Eid Kamel Abdel Fattah El-Shimi, Ahmed Eid Ali Saleh, Hani Mohamed Ayoub Abdel Razek, Mohamed Mohamed Al-Burai Ali Farag, and Yasser Hussein Mohamed. Moreover, the court handed down a 15-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to two other defendants: Ayman Mohamed Abdel Hamid Farag and Ayman Eid Kamel Abdel Fattah El-Shimi. Three defendants were acquitted of all charges. These individuals were named as Fathallah Abdel Mawla Abdel Razek, Ahmed Ali Kamel Abdel Fattah El-Shimi, and Akram Hassan Ismail Ahmed.
