The Sudanese Teachers’ Committee announced the death of its leadership member Yousef Al-Sadeeq, who was also a leader within the Al-Azhari sector in Khartoum, inside one of the Rapid Support Forces militias’ detention centers in southern Khartoum.
The committee clarified in a statement that “Al-Sadeeq” is not the only teaching staff held in RSF detention centers, calling for the immediate release of all detained teachers. It warned that continuing to detain them under conditions of torture, starvation, and denial of medical care amounts to a clear declaration that they are being driven to the brink of death.
This incident comes just days after the killing of teacher Ibrahim Taira, a secondary school chemistry teacher in Ombada locality west of Khartoum, who was arrested and tortured inside one of the RSF militias’ detention centers. He appeared in a video recording before his death in a tragic health condition, clearly bearing signs of beatings, hunger, and medical neglect. His family was asked by the RSF forces to pay a large financial ransom in exchange for his release before they ultimately took his life.
For its part, the Committee for Justice (CFJ) condemned the killing of teacher Yousef Al-Sadeeq inside the Rapid Support Forces militia detention center, considering it part of a systematic policy practiced by these militias against civilians. The committee calls for an immediate and independent investigation into the circumstances of his death, holding those responsible accountable, and preventing perpetrators from evading punishment.
