Sudan: Committee for Justice Documents the Arrest and Enforced Disappearance of Humanitarian Activist in Kassala State

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the arrest of humanitarian activist Ayoub Ibrahim Arabi, Director of the Tabashir Organization for Relief and Development, by security authorities in the city of Kassala, following his arrival from the city of El Fasher in late February 2026, without clear charges being brought against him or any legal basis for his detention being announced.

According to information monitored by CFJ, the arrest was linked to complaints and accusations described as malicious concerning the manner in which he left the city of El Fasher, amid allegations by local sources that he had not cooperated with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Available information indicates that his arrest coincided with restrictions targeting the work of the Tabashir Organization, including the freezing of the organization’s bank account containing funds designated for its humanitarian activities. This reportedly prompted him to travel to Kassala in an attempt to address the financial situation before being arrested immediately upon arrival.

The information further stated that authorities had previously arrested Samar Mohamed, the organization’s financial director, in January, within a similar context of security measures related to the organization’s humanitarian work and activities.

CFJ also revealed that Ayoub Ibrahim Arabi was later transferred from Kassala to the city of Atbara, while his family was prevented from communicating with him or obtaining information regarding the conditions of his detention, raising concerns over his legal safety and detention conditions.

The Committee for Justice expressed concern over the continued use of detention outside the framework of the law and enforced disappearance, as well as restrictions imposed on humanitarian workers. CFJ calls for the immediate disclosure of the whereabouts of Ayoub Ibrahim Arabi, ensuring his legal rights and access to communication with his family and lawyer, and guaranteeing that he is not subjected to any violations inside detention facilities.
