Press Release
The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has monitored the killing of Suleiman Taj al-Din Ali Masbal, Director of the Shaeria Zakat Office and humanitarian activist, who was killed on Thursday, September 26, in an armed attack carried out by unknown assailants on his vehicle while en route to Al-Daein, the capital of East Darfur State.
The attack took place between “Abu Shibaih” and “Kalago” on the road leading to Al-Daein, where Taj al-Din was heading to participate in a meeting of Zakat directors from various localities in East Darfur.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers intercepted the vehicle of the Zakat office director and opened fire, killing him instantly, while one of his guards sustained injuries.
Calls for investigation and civilian protection:
Despite the violent nature of the attack, the assailants fled without looting the vehicle or any other belongings. Local sources indicated that the armed group had previously carried out several armed robberies in the same area.
In response, CFJ strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a blatant violation of human rights and regional security. CFJ urged the authorities to take responsibility for protecting civilians’ lives and property, initiate an immediate and comprehensive investigation into Taj al-Din’s killing, hold those responsible accountable, and ensure they do not evade justice.
