Sudan: The CFJ expresses solidarity with striking doctors at Dungla Teaching Hospital and calls for protection from attacks

Doctors at Dungla Teaching Hospital in Sudan announced a full strike in response to repeated violations targeting medical personnel in recent weeks. These violations include physical assault and death threats against doctors while performing their professional duties, alongside recurring verbal abuse by patient attendants, with clear negligence from concerned authorities.

Among the most notable incidents was the attack on general physician Al-Munthir Amr and general surgeon Al-Munthir Adil inside the hospital’s general surgery and emergency departments. Reports also indicated that other on-duty medical staff were subjected to insults, humiliation, and verbal threats, reflecting a completely unsafe and unacceptable work environment that jeopardizes the continuity of healthcare services for citizens.

The doctors clarified that their strike is an inevitable consequence of the lack of protection and the ongoing assaults, emphasizing that this action aims to draw attention to the severity of the situation and the urgent need for intervention to halt these violations and secure the medical work environment. They warned that continued neglect will further deteriorate the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens, in addition to endangering the lives of medical personnel themselves.

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) strongly condemns the repeated violations against medical staff at Dungla Teaching Hospital and affirms full solidarity with the striking doctors without compromising the care of patients and medical service seekers.

The CFJ also calls for an immediate and independent investigation into all recorded incidents, swift accountability for those responsible, and stresses the necessity of providing adequate protection for doctors and medical personnel, as well as improving the hospital work environment to ensure their safety and enable them to perform their mission safely.
