Sudan: The CFJ Condemns the Killing of Humanitarian Activist Bakri Abd Allah Abker After Torture in an Unofficial Detention Site East of Khartoum

Local sources from the eastern Khartoum area reported the death of citizen and humanitarian activist Bakri Abd Allah Abker after he was arrested by security forces and taken to the cultural complex adjacent to market 6 in Al-Haj Yousef, which is used as an unofficial detention site, where he was subjected to torture until he lost his life.

According to eyewitness accounts, the arrest was linked to “Abker’s” community activities and his involvement with the Change and Services Committees in Block 6 of East Nile locality, which provide direct humanitarian services to the local population, particularly amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region.

Information also indicated that detainees at the mentioned site are subjected to harsh detention conditions, including overcrowding, denial of medical care, and physical and psychological torture, all of which constitute serious violations of human rights.

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) strongly condemns the incident and calls for an immediate and independent investigation into all circumstances surrounding the arrest, torture, and killing of activist Bakri Abd Allah Abker, demanding the identification and punishment of all those involved in the crime and preventing any form of impunity.
