Sudan: Committee for Justice Documents the Enforced Disappearance of Broadcaster Hassan Hamed Hamad in Blue Nile State and Calls for Disclosure of His Fate

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the enforced disappearance of broadcaster Hassan Hamed Hamad, a presenter of local‑language programs at Blue Nile State Radio, following his arrest on 13 May 2026 from his workplace in the city of Al‑Damazin by the army‑affiliated security cell in Blue Nile State.

According to information documented by CFJ, Hassan Hamed was taken to an undisclosed location without revealing his place of detention or allowing his family to know his fate or communicate with him, rendering him forcibly disappeared since the moment of his arrest.

Available information indicates that the arrest was carried out without a judicial warrant or publicly announced legal procedures, and from inside his media workplace, without presenting any official charges or referring him to a competent judicial authority, in an incident that raises serious concerns regarding his physical and legal safety.

The Committee for Justice expressed concern over the continued patterns of enforced disappearance and detention outside the framework of the law, and the serious violations these practices constitute against human rights and freedom of expression. CFJ calls for the immediate disclosure of the whereabouts of Hassan Hamed Hamad, guarantees for his safety, enabling him to communicate with his family and lawyer, and his immediate release unless clear legal procedures consistent with fair trial guarantees are taken against him.
