Sudan: Committee for Justice Documents the Continued Detention of Lawyer Mohamed Ezzeldin and Calls for His Immediate Release

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the continued detention of Sudanese lawyer Mohamed Ezzeldin since 10 May 2025 in the city of Port Sudan, following his arrest by forces affiliated with Military Intelligence, amid allegations of arbitrary detention, torture, and ill‑treatment.

According to CFJ’s documentation, Mohamed Ezzeldin was arrested without a lawful arrest warrant and has been held for prolonged periods without being brought before a competent judicial authority or granted a fair trial, with his detention repeatedly renewed.

Human rights reports indicate that the detained lawyer suffers from chronic illnesses, and that his health condition has deteriorated due to denial of adequate medical care, in addition to allegations that he was subjected to torture and ill‑treatment during detention.

The Committee for Justice calls for the immediate release of Mohamed Ezzeldin, or for bringing him promptly before a fair trial that meets all legal guarantees, ensuring his access to necessary medical care, enabling him to communicate with his family and lawyer, and opening an independent investigation into the violations he has reportedly suffered during his detention.
