Sudan: Committee for Justice Documents the Arrest of 21 Civilians from One Family and the Continued Detention of Seven of Them in Nyala

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the arrest by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of 21 civilians from one family, including women and children, after intercepting a civilian vehicle transporting them while traveling from Um Hosh area in Al‑Tawisha locality, North Darfur State, en route to the city of Omdurman.

According to CFJ’s documentation, RSF forces stopped the vehicle in the Um Badr area of North Kordofan State on 26 January 2026, before transferring all those on board to the city of Nyala, South Darfur State.

Information documented by the Committee indicates that after four days of detention, eight women and six children were released, while seven others, including a child, remained in detention and were transferred to Dagris Prison in Nyala. They are: Naji Mohamed Moussa Siyam, Siyam Hassan Moussa Siyam, Ahmed Adam Al‑Douma Dawoud, Hamdoun Maki Hassan Moussa, Magdi Abdelhadi Abdallah, Abdallah Abdelhadi Abdallah, and Azzo Al‑Mana.

CFJ also documented that two of the detainees were suffering from serious health conditions prior to their arrest, raising serious concerns regarding their safety amid their continued detention and their need for medical care and monitoring.

The Committee for Justice expressed concern over the continued detention of civilians without publicly disclosed legal procedures, particularly in light of recurring reports regarding detention conditions inside Dagris Prison and associated allegations of ill‑treatment and violations against detainees.

CFJ stressed that the arrest and arbitrary detention of civilians, and the denial of basic legal safeguards, constitute a violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights law, and called for ensuring the safety of detainees, disclosure of their conditions, enabling them to communicate with their families, and providing them with the necessary medical care.
