Sudan: CFJ Reports the Arrest of Four Doctors and Relief Activists in Wad Madani and Calls for Their Immediate Release

Unidentified security forces affiliated with the Sudanese army arrested four doctors in the city of Wad Madani on February 24. The city’s security agency denied responsibility for the arrests.

The four detained doctors are:

  • Adam Mohamed Ibrahim (Surgical Consultant)
  • Al-Sadiq Al-Makhol (Internal Medicine Specialist)
  • Nafisa Abdel Rahman (Medical Intern)
  • Khalid Al-Faki

The following day, Dr. Adam Ibrahim and Dr. Al-Sadiq Al-Makhol were released; however, Dr. Adam Ibrahim was re-arrested shortly after.

While details about the conditions of the remaining three detainees are limited, reports suggest that they are accused of collaborating with forces linked to the Rapid Support Forces militia — allegations denied by medical authorities in the city. These authorities affirmed that the detained doctors were simply fulfilling their humanitarian duties without regard to political or tribal affiliations.

CFJ strongly condemns the continued detention of the three doctors and calls for their immediate release. The committee also demands clear disclosure of their fate and the formal charges against them, while urging that medical staff not be dragged into the ongoing conflict in the country.
