Sudan: CFJ reports RSF’ arrest of activist Abubakr Omar Abakar in Darfur, demands his release

Press Release

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has monitored that militias affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces in Darfur arrested human rights activist and defender Abubakr Omar Abakar on Sunday, October 13.

According to reports, the RSF militias transferred him to the city of “Zalingei,” and his fate remains unclear. Abakar is known for his efforts in documenting and disseminating information about the violation’s civilians face in Darfur, and his arrest has caused significant concern among human rights activists in Sudan.

CFJ strongly condemns the arbitrary detention of Abakar, calling for his immediate release. CFJ also urges both parties in the Sudanese conflict to protect human rights defenders and activists, stressing the need for a safe environment for them to carry out their peaceful and legitimate work. The committee warns that such oppressive actions will further deteriorate human rights conditions in the country.
