Sudan: CFJ reports killing of doctor inside “Wad Al-Noura” hospital by RSF

Press release

Geneva – June 24, 2024

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has monitored that forces affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) stormed Wad Al-Noura village hospital in Al Jazirah state, central Sudan, and killed a doctor in one of the operating rooms.

On June 5th, Dr. Mohamed Bilal Juma was killed by RSF militia inside the hospital while preparing for a childbirth procedure in the operating room. Dr. Juma was well-known for his humanitarian efforts in assisting displaced persons in the village.

CFJ condemns the killing of Dr. Juma within a protected facility under international humanitarian law and calls for a thorough investigation into this

massacre, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 180 patients, staff, and doctors. CFJ demands accountability and punishment for those responsible, ensuring they do not evade justice.

Furthermore, CFJ urges both parties in the Sudanese conflict to cease targeting medical facilities and personnel, and to provide adequate protection for them to carry out their essential roles.
