The Committee for Justice (CFJ) documents the detention of five teachers from Edd al Fursan District in South Darfur State by forces affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
According to a statement from the Sudanese Teachers’ Committee, RSF military intelligence arrested Doud Mahdi Doud, Al-Hadi Ali, Omar Al-Tayeb, Zakin Al-Hali Dorin, and Hamed Ibrahim Mubasher, on the grounds that they had received their monthly salaries from the Ministry of Education under the government based in Port Sudan, in eastern Sudan.
RSF militias accused them of collaborating with the Port Sudan government and collecting monthly wages, a charge the Sudanese Teachers’ Committee condemned.
The committee held RSF militias responsible for the safety of the teachers and demanded their immediate release, while also appealing to all those concerned with human rights issues to confront such violations against civilians, and teachers in particular.
CFJ condemns this incident as a blatant violation of human rights and of the values that call for the protection of education and its defenders. It demands the immediate release of the five teachers, an end to the targeting of activists and teachers, and holds the RSF responsible for their safety. CFJ also calls on both the local and international community to take action to curb violations and ensure the protection of civilians.
