Sudan: CFJ documents injury of nurse Musab Yaqoub in artillery shelling by RSF and calls for investigation and accountability

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) documents the injury of nurse and relief activist Musab Yaqoub Yousif Ibrahim, who works in the emergency and trauma department at the Southern Hospital in El-Fasher. His condition remains under observation amid extremely difficult health and living conditions, along with six other patients, including a child and a pregnant woman, who were also wounded in heavy artillery shelling by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

According to field sources, the shelling constitutes a clear violation against medical facilities serving thousands of patients in El-Fasher, especially after nearly 90% of hospitals have gone out of service.

The Sudanese Doctors’ Network stated that the targeting of the Southern Hospital is the second such attack within two weeks, stressing that it reveals the RSF’s intention to force all medical facilities in the city out of service, amid severe shortages of medical supplies and the suffering of thousands of patients.

CFJ condemns the targeting and shelling of medical and relief facilities, which it classifies as war crimes, and calls for an impartial and transparent investigation to identify those responsible and prevent their impunity.

CFJ also urges the warring parties in Sudan to spare medical facilities and relief teams from the devastation of war and to provide the conditions necessary for them to perform their professional duties safely and effectively.
