Egypt: The CFJ Demands Immediate Clarification on the Fate and Urgent Release of Human Rights Lawyer Seif Mamedou

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has reported that Egyptian authorities continue to forcibly disappear human rights lawyer Seif Mamedou Ahmed Mahmoud (24 years old), following his arrest and detention from his office in the Al-Matríya district of Cairo on Friday, May 9th, 2025.

Sources indicated that security forces have not presented any arrest warrant issued by the public prosecution, nor has Mamedou been referred to any investigative authority so far. To this day, the reasons behind his arrest or his current place of detention remain unknown.

The CFJ rejects the arbitrary measures taken against the Egyptian human rights lawyer Seif Mamedou, and urges the Egyptian authorities to clarify his fate and reveal the location and conditions of his detention. Furthermore, the committee holds the Egyptian authorities entirely responsible for his safety and demands his immediate release without any conditions or restrictions.
