Committee for Justice Launches Its Second Regional Training Alongside the Session of the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances in Abidjan

Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire – 6 May 2026

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has officially launched its second regional training and engagement programme for African human rights defenders, organized alongside the 139th session of the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID), currently taking place in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The three-day regional engagement, held from 6 to 8 May 2026, brings together a selected group of human rights defenders and civil society representatives from across the African continent to strengthen engagement with United Nations Special Procedures and African human rights mechanisms within the framework of the Addis Ababa Roadmap.

The initiative aims to enhance the practical capacity of participants to engage effectively with international and regional human rights mechanisms, improve coordination among civil society actors across Africa, and promote stronger complementarity between United Nations mechanisms and African human rights systems.

The programme includes practical training sessions, strategic discussions, peer exchange among African human rights defenders, and coordination meetings aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and sustained engagement with international accountability mechanisms.

The Abidjan engagement represents a rare opportunity for direct interaction between African civil society actors and United Nations mandate holders on the African continent.
