Enforced disappearance and German pressures:
Egyptian security authorities detained citizen Alaa Al-Din Saad Mohammed el-Adly (59 years old), the father of political activist Fagr el-Adly, on August 18. This occurred as he arrived in Cairo from Germany, where he permanently resides, for a family visit.
Cairo International Airport security detained Mr. el-Adly after his plane landed from Frankfurt, based on orders issued by the National Security, before he was brought before the Supreme State Security Prosecution, in the Fifth Settlement, on August 20, following pressure by the German Embassy to reveal his fate.
The Public Prosecution charged him with spreading false news and joining a group established in violation of the law, and issued a decision to imprison him for 15 days pending investigations.
Condemnation and Call for Release and Investigation:
CFJ condemns the targeting of families of activists and human rights defenders in Egypt and affirms that such practices are the most significant evidence of authorities expanding their
terrorism against human rights defenders in Egypt. The committee calls for an immediate halt to these practices against the families of human rights defenders in Egypt.
The institution also demands the immediate release of the father of the Egyptian activist and human rights defender, Fagr el-Adly, and urges an investigation into the violations that have affected him since the moment of his arrest, including one of the worst violations: enforced disappearance.
