As part of its ongoing monitoring of the legal situation related to key human rights cases in Egypt, the Committee for Justice (CFJ) has issued its weekly bulletin detailing the latest developments in major cases. The bulletin, published through its political case agenda, was launched to facilitate access to information regarding hearing dates and updates on human rights cases in a simplified and accessible format. Below are the updates for the period from May 24 to May 29, 2025:
1- Case Name: Reorganizing the Special Committees of the Muslim Brotherhood – “Shrouq Cell”
Date: Saturday, May 24, 2025
Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound
Details: The Second Criminal Circuit, presided over by Judge Wajdi Mohamed Abdel Moneim, decided to adjourn the trial of 57 defendants belonging to elements of the Muslim Brotherhood group, who are accused of preparing a plan aimed at reorganizing the Higher Administrative Committee of the Muslim Brotherhood and its supporting committees, with the objective of continuing their hostile movement against state institutions—commonly known as the “Shrouq Cell”—to June 25, 2025, to continue defense arguments, while maintaining the detention of the accused.
2- Case Name: The Large Media-Based Terrorism Financing Network
Date: Saturday, May 24, 2025
Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound
Details: The Second Criminal Circuit, presided over by Judge Wajdi Mohamed Abdel Moneim, decided to adjourn the trial of 35 defendants in the case commonly known as the “Large Media-Based Terrorism Financing Network,” which includes businessmen, owners of large companies, contractors, graphic designers, and gold merchants, to June 23, 2025, to continue defense arguments.
3- Case Name: Trial of a Defendant and His Wife for Joining ISIS
Date: Saturday, May 24, 2025
Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound
Details: The Second Criminal Circuit, presided over by Judge Wajdi Mohamed Abdel Moneim, decided to reserve judgment in the trial of the accused Ahmed Naji Shihata Abdel Ghany Ahmed and his wife Donya Amr Abdel Sayed Ahmed, charged with joining the ISIS group, for May 28, 2025, to issue the final ruling.
4- Case Name: Abu Al-Futouh Case – Broadcasting False News Regarding the Tiran and Sanafir Islands Agreement

Details: The Emergency State Security Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Wajdi Abdel Moneim, decided to adjourn the retrial of Ahmed Abdel Mon’em Abu Al-Futouh, the head of Strong Egypt Party and former presidential candidate, who is defendant number 12 in case number 1059/2021, to June 10, 2025, to allow the accused’s attendance from prison.
5- Case Name: The Brotherhood’s Preparation and Mobilization Cell
Date: Sunday, May 25, 2025

Details: The Second Criminal Circuit decided to adjourn the trial of 54 defendants in the case commonly known as the “Brotherhood’s Preparation and Mobilization Cell,” registered under case number 142255/2024 Criminals – Nasr City First District, to July 13, 2025, to hear testimonies of witnesses.
6- Case Name: The Destruction Cell
Date: Sunday, May 25, 2025
Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound
Details: The First Criminal Circuit, presided over by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbeeny, decided to adjourn the trial of 23 defendants in case number 18739/2024 Criminals – First Instance, Nasr City, commonly known as the “Destruction Cell,” to July 13, 2025, to hear testimonies of witnesses. The court also ordered the release of defendant Karam Abdel Wahab Abdel Aal Abdel Jalil under residential bail unless wanted in other cases.
7- Case Name: The Merged Entity – Trial of Leader Yahya Moussa and 114 Others
Date: Monday, May 26, 2025
Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound
Details: The Second Criminal Circuit decided to adjourn the trial of Brotherhood leader Yahya Moussa and 114 other defendants in case number 383/2024 Criminals – High State Security, registered under case number 5490/2024 Criminals – Qasr El Nile District, commonly known as the “Merged Entity,” to July 26, 2025, to hear witness testimony, while maintaining the detention of the accused.
8- Case Name: Joker Case

Details: The Second Criminal Circuit decided to reserve judgment in the retrial of 37 defendants in the case involving fugitive contractor Mohamed Ali for spreading false news that could affect national security and joining a group established in violation of constitutional and legal provisions, in case number 1530/2020 High State Security File, registered under case number 653/2021 Criminals – New Cairo District, commonly known as the “Joker Case,” for June 25, 2025, to issue the final ruling.
9- Case Name: The Manshiyet Nasser Terrorist Cell
Date: Tuesday, May 27, 2025
Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound
Details: The Second Criminal Circuit (Terrorism Division), presided over by Judge Wajdi Abdel Moneim, reserved the retrial of Osama Mohamed Qassem Abdel Hamid, accused in case number 1436/2020 Criminals – Emergency State Security in Manshiyet Nasser, for charges of joining a terrorist group, for Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
10- Case Name: The ISIS Cell in Qena
Date: Tuesday, May 27, 2025
Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound
Details: The Second Criminal Circuit (Terrorism Division), presided over by Judge Wajdi Abdel Moneim, decided to extend the date for issuing verdicts against two defendants in case number 423/2023 High State Security File, commonly known as the “ISIS Cell in Qena” (Mohamed Arabi Abdel Aziz and Mohamed Safwat Abdel Wahab), to Wednesday, May 28, 2025, pending receipt of the religious opinion from the Grand Mufti regarding their execution by hanging.
11- Case Name: Expatriate Cells

Details: The Second Criminal Circuit (Terrorism Division), presided over by Judge Wajdi Abdel Moneim, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of 32 defendants in case number 69091/2024 Criminals – Haram District, commonly known as the “Expatriate Cells,” to July 14, 2025, to allow the last defendant to attend from prison and for preparation.
12- Case Name: The Manshiyet Nasser Terrorist Cell

Details: The Second Criminal Circuit (Terrorism Division), presided over by Judge Wajdi Abdel Moneim, ruled in the retrial of Osama Mohamed Qassem Abdel Hamid, accused in case number 1436/2020 Criminals – Emergency State Security in Manshiyet Nasser, for joining a terrorist group, acquitting him of all charges.
13- Case Name: The Al Salam Riots
Date: Wednesday, May 28, 2025
Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound
Details: The Second Criminal Circuit, presided over by Judge Wajdi Abdel Moneim, issued its ruling in the retrial of defendant Mostafa Hamdy Ibrahim Mohamed (defendant No. 18 in the indictment) and defendant Mohamed Abdel Hamid Mohamed Ismail (defendant No. 27 in the indictment), in case number 20336/2019 Criminals – Al Salam Thani, registered under case number 3256/2019 Criminals – East Cairo Court, commonly known as the “Al Salam Riots.” The court sentenced Mohamed Abdel Hamid Mohamed Ismail to three years of strict imprisonment for the charges brought against him, and sentenced Mostafa Hamdy Ibrahim Mohamed to three years in prison, and ordered both to be placed under police surveillance for a period equal to the length of their sentences.
14- Case Name: Foreign Currency Trading and Funding – Yahya Moussa and 16 Others
Date: Wednesday, May 28, 2025
Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound
Details: The Second Criminal Circuit, presided over by Judge Wajdi Abdel Moneim, decided to adjourn the trial of Brotherhood leader Yahya Moussa and 16 others in the case concerning foreign currency trading and funding, to July 27, 2025, to continue closing arguments.
15- Case Name: The ISIS Cell in Qena
Date: Wednesday, May 28, 2025
Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound
Details: The Second Criminal Circuit issued its verdict in the trial of two defendants in case number 423/2023 High State Security File, commonly known as the “ISIS Cell in Qena,” sentencing Mohamed Arabi Abdel Aziz to death by hanging for the charges brought against him, and Mohamed Safwat Abdel Wahab to 15 years of strict imprisonment. The court also ordered both individuals to be added to the lists of terrorists and terrorist entities.
16- Case Name: Trial of a Defendant and His Wife for Joining ISIS
Date: Wednesday, May 28, 2025
Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound
Details: The Second Criminal Circuit, presided over by Judge Wajdi Abdel Moneim, issued its ruling in the trial of the accused Ahmed Naji Shihata Abdel Ghany Ahmed and his wife Donya Amr Abdel Sayed Ahmed, charged with joining the ISIS terrorist group, sentencing the male defendant to five years of strict imprisonment and the female defendant to three years of strict imprisonment.
