Sudan: The CFJ Condemns Targeting of Al-Fashir Church and Killing of Its Priest in RSF Shelling, Demands Investigation

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) condemned the incident that claimed the life of Father Luca Jomo, priest of the Catholic Church in Al-Fashir, following the impact of a shell fired during a deliberate bombardment carried out by Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militias on the site of the church in Al-Azma neighborhood, near Al-Fashir market, on Friday, June 13, 2025.

Reports indicated that the shelling resulted in the death of the late priest along with two young men, at a time when the city of Al-Fashir is suffering from dire humanitarian conditions due to the suffocating siege imposed by RSF militias since May 2024.

The CFJ strongly denounces the incident and demands an immediate and independent investigation into the circumstances of the attack, identifying those responsible for targeting the church and carrying out the shelling, holding accountable all those involved in committing this heinous crime, and preventing any form of impunity.
