Sudan: Committee for Justice Documents the Killing of a Humanitarian Aid Truck Driver in an Airstrike in South Kordofan and Calls for an Independent Investigation

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the killing of a humanitarian aid truck driver in an airstrike that targeted two trucks contracted by the World Food Programme (WFP) in South Kordofan State during the early hours of Saturday, 3 October 2026.

According to information documented by CFJ, the two trucks were traveling from Al‑Dilling to Kadugli carrying food assistance shipments belonging to the World Food Programme, and bore clear markings identifying their humanitarian nature. The attack resulted in the death of one of the drivers, while information regarding the full extent of the damage to the humanitarian cargo remains under assessment.

The incident occurred only one day after another WFP-contracted truck was reportedly struck by an explosive device in Al‑Dilling after completing the delivery of life‑saving food assistance, highlighting the increasing dangers faced by humanitarian personnel and aid operations in conflict-affected areas.

The Committee for Justice emphasizes that humanitarian workers, relief supplies, and civilian objects enjoy protection under international humanitarian law, and that parties to armed conflicts are required to take all necessary measures to ensure their safety and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance to civilians in need.

CFJ calls for a prompt, independent, impartial, and transparent investigation into the attack, the identification of those responsible, and their accountability. The Committee also urges all parties to the conflict to comply fully with international humanitarian law, protect civilians, humanitarian workers, and civilian infrastructure, and ensure the safe and unhindered movement of humanitarian personnel and relief consignments.
