Sudan: Committee for Justice Documents the Death of Three Detainees Inside Dagris Prison After More Than a Year in Detention

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the deaths of three detainees from the town of Reheid Al‑Bardi in South Darfur State inside Dagris Prison, a detention facility operated by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) west of the city of Nyala, after more than a year in detention, according to testimonies from their families and detainees who were recently released.

According to CFJ’s documentation, the deceased are Omar Ahmed Al‑Sheikh, Mokhtar Habib Al‑Hijazi, and Ahmed Ismail Mohamed. Former detainees reported that the three men died inside the prison approximately three months ago.

The Rapid Support Forces had arrested more than 20 individuals from Reheid Al‑Bardi in June 2025, including the three deceased detainees, on allegations of collaborating with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).

The families of the deceased stated that they learned of their relatives’ deaths from recently released detainees, amid ongoing difficulties in visiting detainees held at Dagris Prison and the absence of any official notifications regarding the conditions or fate of their relatives.

The Committee for Justice calls for an independent and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the three detainees, the disclosure of the causes of death and detention conditions, and accountability for any violations that may have occurred.

CFJ also calls for the disclosure of the fate of all individuals held inside Dagris Prison, and for ensuring that detainees receive adequate medical care and enjoy all legal rights and safeguards guaranteed under applicable legal and human rights standards.
