The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the death of detainee Mohamedein Mohamed Abdelrahim Abdelshafi inside Dagris Prison, west of the city of Nyala in South Darfur State, after months of detention by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to information provided by his family.
According to statements from his family, Mohamedein was arrested in December 2025 in the city of Nyala by a force affiliated with the RSF, without any formal charges being brought against him or his presentation before any judicial procedures. He was later transferred to a detention facility run by the General Intelligence and Security Service in the industrial area, before being moved to Dagris Prison earlier this year.
Available information indicates that the detainee suffered from diabetes and required regular medical care. His family lost contact with him from the moment of his arrest until they later received notification of his death inside the detention facility, without being provided with details regarding the cause or exact date of death. His body has not yet been handed over to the family.
The Committee for Justice expressed deep concern over the continued deaths inside places of detention and the conditions surrounding undisclosed detention practices, stressing the need to respect the legal and humanitarian guarantees of detainees, including the right to healthcare, family contact, and legal representation.
CFJ calls for an independent and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death, the disclosure of the conditions and cause of death, accountability for those responsible, the handover of the body to his family, and an end to all forms of detention outside the framework of the law.
