The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the arrest of journalist Miyah Al‑Nil Mubarak on 28 March 2026, while she was covering middle‑school examinations in Jabal Awliya locality in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.

CFJ confirmed that security forces took the journalist to an interrogation office, where her mobile phone and personal belongings were thoroughly searched, and she was detained for 12 consecutive hours.

According to CFJ’s findings, Mubarak was accused of filming with the intent of providing coordinates for targeting the school, as well as forging her press identification, despite her possession of an official press card issued by the professional registry. The interrogation reportedly extended beyond her professional work to include questions about her personal life, including her tribal affiliation and the reasons for her divorce, constituting a serious violation of her right to privacy.

The Committee stated that this incident represents an arbitrary abuse of authority and a violation of the constitutional and legal rights guaranteed to journalists, and poses a direct threat to freedom of the press and the safety of media professionals in Sudan.

CFJ calls for an urgent and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the arrest and treatment of journalist Miyah Al‑Nil Mubarak, accountability for those responsible for the violations, and concrete measures to ensure the protection of press freedom and the rights of all media workers in Sudan.
