The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the killing and injury of dozens of civilians—most of them women and children—following a drone strike that targeted the Um Rasoum area in Sinnout locality, West Kordofan State, on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.
According to CFJ’s documentation, a drone belonging to the Sudanese Armed Forces struck a drinking‑water station where a group of women and children had gathered to fetch water in containers and to water their livestock. A local community elder reported that the strike resulted in the death of dozens and left many others with serious injuries.
CFJ noted that the wounded were transferred to Abuzabad Hospital for treatment, amid worsening humanitarian and health conditions in the area due to the continuation of military operations.
The Committee affirmed that the targeting of civilian sites—including essential water sources—constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law, which prohibits attacks against civilians and civilian objects and obligates all parties to the conflict to take all feasible precautions to protect them.
CFJ calls for an urgent, independent, and transparent investigation into the circumstances of the strike, the identification and accountability of those responsible, and an immediate halt to the targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure. The organization also urges the provision of adequate protection for civilians in West Kordofan State, in a manner that upholds their right to life, safety, and security.
