The Committee for Justice (CFJ) condemned the attack targeting the Community Court in the village of Al‑Zawiya Gharra, located in Al‑Sireif locality, North Darfur State, which, according to preliminary information, resulted in the killing of at least 35 people and the injury of others.
According to information documented by CFJ, the attack occurred at approximately 1:00 p.m. on 2 August 2026 and was carried out by drones reportedly affiliated with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). The strike took place while the court was hosting a gathering of civilians attending proceedings related to a number of local disputes and cases. Available information indicates that the attack also caused damage to the court building, which serves as a civilian institution providing judicial and community services to local residents.
The Committee emphasized that the targeting of civilians and civilian objects, including judicial facilities, constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law and requires accountability.
CFJ calls for the opening of an independent and transparent investigation into the circumstances of the attack, the identification of those responsible, and their accountability. The Committee also urges all parties to the conflict to comply with the rules of international humanitarian law, particularly the principles of distinction, proportionality, and precaution, and to take all necessary measures to protect civilians and civilian objects from the effects of military operations.
