The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the escalation of teachers’ mobilization efforts across several Libyan cities, as educators continue to demand improved living conditions, salary increases, and the regularization of their employment status. The protests have included demonstration vigils in cities such as Zawiya, Misrata, and Janzour, accompanied by the suspension of classes pending a response to the teachers’ declared demands.
According to available information, participants stressed that their actions are intended to convey teachers’ demands to the Government and the House of Representatives, as the executive and legislative bodies responsible for salary policies, and are not directed against local education offices or municipal authorities.
The Head of the Janzour Teachers’ Syndicate also emphasized the importance of maintaining trade union unity and continuing to advocate for teachers’ rights through legitimate and peaceful means.
The Committee for Justice notes that teachers play a vital role in ensuring the continuity and quality of education, and that addressing their economic and professional concerns is essential to strengthening the education system and safeguarding the rights and dignity of education sector workers.
CFJ calls on the Libyan authorities to engage with teachers’ demands, take clear steps to improve wages and employment conditions, and adopt measures that guarantee the rights of education professionals and preserve their dignity. The Committee further stresses that responding to these concerns would contribute to the stability of the education sector and support the provision of quality educational services.
