Egypt: The CFJ Reports the 13th Death in 2025 Inside Detention Facilities of Political Detainee at 10th of Ramadan Prison

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the death of political detainee Saad Abu Al-Einen inside his cell at the 10th of Ramadan Prison in Egypt due to medical negligence.

According to the committee, Abu Al-Einen, who is from Shbeen El-Kom in the Menoufia Governorate, suffered from health issues amid deliberate neglect by prison authorities who failed to provide him with adequate healthcare.

The CFJ strongly condemns this death and demands an immediate and transparent investigation into the circumstances of his passing. The committee also calls for accountability of those responsible for this neglect that led to Abu Al-Einen’s death.

With these cases, the number of deaths documented by the CFJ inside prisons and detention centers in Egypt since the beginning of 2025 has risen to 13. This follows the documentation of 50 deaths during the previous year, 2024.

Verified information about deaths during detention in Egypt can be obtained through the “Justice Watch Archive,” a service provided by the CFJ. It contains information on over 14,000 victims and more than 30,000 violations, monitoring abuses across over 500 detention sites in Egypt.
