The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the death of detainee Dr. Salah Metwaly Hussein Mohamed (68 years old), a consultant obstetrician and gynecologist and former Secretary‑General of the Beni Suef Medical Syndicate, while in detention at Minya Maximum Security Prison.
According to CFJ’s documentation, Dr. Salah Metwaly was arrested on 29 September 2013 from his medical clinic in Beni Suef and remained in detention continuously since that date.
With this case, the number of deaths documented by the Committee for Justice inside prisons and detention facilities in Egypt since the beginning of 2026 has risen to 36 deaths, following the documentation of 60 deaths during 2025.
