The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the continuation of a strike by hundreds of workers at Misr Al‑Ameriya Spinning and Weaving Company in Alexandria Governorate for the second consecutive week, in protest against the calculation of a 12% special allowance based on the basic salary rather than the insured salary, in addition to demands for an official directive guaranteeing their financial rights.
The workers began their strike on 28 July 2026, following the issuance of an administrative circular by the company regarding the method of calculating the allowance, prompting workers to object and suspend work.
According to information documented by CFJ, the workers insist that the allowance should be calculated on the basis of the insured salary, maintaining that their demands are consistent with the provisions of Law No. 75 of 2026. They have also rejected attempts to persuade them to end the strike and resume work, calling instead for written guarantees from the company’s management regarding the mechanism for calculating and paying the allowance before ending their protest.
The strike comes in the context of previous labor actions within the company during the current year, in which workers demanded higher wages, increases in risk allowances, and objected to deductions from their salaries.
The Committee for Justice calls on the company’s management and the relevant authorities to respect workers’ rights to fair wages and to ensure that their right to peaceful protest in pursuit of their financial entitlements is fully protected. CFJ further urges the opening of a serious dialogue with workers’ representatives to reach solutions that guarantee the implementation of their financial rights in accordance with the law, while refraining from any retaliatory measures against those participating in the strike.
