Egypt: Committee for Justice Documents Security Workers’ Protest at Talaat Moustafa Group Demanding Better Wages and Benefits

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented a protest organized by security workers at “Madinaty,” one of the projects of Alexandria Construction Company, a subsidiary of the Talaat Moustafa Group. The workers demanded an increase in wages and allowances.

According to CFJ’s documentation, the workers called for an end to 12-hour shifts without overtime pay, the restoration of annual leave entitlements, an increase in meal allowances, a raise in bonus rates to 90%, and the conversion of temporary contracts into permanent employment agreements. These demands were submitted in a memorandum to the management of the Madinaty project.

The workers explained that their monthly salaries range between EGP 6,000 and EGP 8,000, and many of them reside in company-provided housing for 23 consecutive days. During this period, they are forced to spend more than a third of their income, as the daily EGP 30 meal allowance is insufficient to cover even one proper meal.

One of the key demands, the workers emphasized, is the issuance of permanent contracts that recognize their previous years of service, as the management currently requires them to sign new contracts annually.

The Committee for Justice expressed its solidarity with the security workers at Madinaty, stressing their right to have their demands addressed and resolved, especially in light of the difficult economic conditions they are facing.
