Egypt: Committee for Justice Documents Death of Sudanese Child Al‑Nazeer Al‑Sadiq Inside Badr Police Station, Calls for Urgent Investigation

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the death of Sudanese child Al‑Nazeer Al‑Sadiq Ali Mohamed Bashir (18), a third‑year secondary school student in Sudan, who died on 11 February 2026 inside the detention facility of Badr Police Station in Cairo—25 days after his arrest—amid allegations of harsh treatment and inhumane detention conditions.

According to testimonies from his family, Al‑Nazeer was arrested on 18 January 2026 in front of his residence, despite holding valid residency documents in Egypt. He remained detained at Badr Police Station until the announcement of his death. The family stated that they received troubling information during his detention indicating that he had been held in extremely cold conditions, allegedly without adequate clothing, blankets, or proper bedding.

Information reviewed by CFJ also indicates that several children were detained alongside adult detainees, including individuals held on criminal charges—raising serious concerns about compliance with legal standards governing the detention of minors, and the requirement to separate juvenile detainees from adults.

CFJ stressed that it is closely monitoring the case due to the severity of the allegations concerning the conditions of detention, particularly when they involve minors or young persons, and given the essential guarantees required to protect the right to life and safety of detainees, as well as the obligation to respect legal and humanitarian standards inside detention facilities.

The committee called for an immediate and transparent disclosure of the circumstances surrounding the death, enabling the family to access the forensic report, and ensuring a thorough investigation into the detention conditions preceding the incident—upholding the rule of law and safeguarding the rights of all detainees without discrimination.
