The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the death of political detainee Ahmed Suleiman Eid Al‑Masoudi (55) following a sharp deterioration in his health while being held in custody and subjected to enforced disappearance, despite the issuance of a judicial order for his release.
According to information gathered by CFJ, the Zagazig Criminal Court issued a decision on 11 November 2025 ordering Al‑Masoudi’s release. However, the decision was never implemented, and he remained forcibly disappeared in the custody of security services, denied access to his family and deprived of necessary medical care.
Reports indicate that Al‑Masoudi had been suffering from severe pneumonia and had previously been transferred to Damanhour Prison Hospital due to his worsening condition, shortly before the release order was issued. His continued enforced disappearance after the court ruling, combined with the denial of medical treatment, led to the further deterioration of his health until his death on Saturday, 27 December 2025.
CFJ further noted that Al‑Masoudi had been detained since 2015, and was subjected multiple times to the practice known as “case recycling (tadweer)”, despite receiving previous release orders on the same charges, including alleged membership in a terrorist organization and possession of printed materials.
CFJ holds the relevant authorities fully responsible for the death of political detainee Ahmed Suleiman Eid Al‑Masoudi, asserting that the incident constitutes a grave violation of the right to life, and forms part of a broader pattern of enforced disappearance, medical neglect, and failure to enforce judicial rulings.
The committee calls for an urgent and independent investigation into the circumstances of his death, accountability for those responsible for his unlawful detention and deprivation of medical care, and an immediate end to the practices of case recycling and enforced disappearance, which pose life‑threatening risks to political detainees.
