The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the death of Egyptian citizen Mahmoud Ragab Ahmed Farag Mosallam inside Oseem Police Station in Giza Governorate on Tuesday, 10 February 2026, while he was being held in connection with an alimony case.
According to a video reviewed by CFJ showing the victim’s body after it was removed from the detention facility, visible injuries appeared on several parts of his body. Some of these injuries—based on circulated and verified footage—are suspected to be the result of physical assault or electric shocks, raising serious concerns regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.
Available information indicates that the incident occurred while he was in custody at the police station, and that no official statement has yet been issued clarifying the cause of death or preliminary medical findings.
CFJ stressed that allegations involving signs of torture or ill‑treatment inside detention facilities require an immediate, independent, and transparent investigation, including:
- Reviewing the surveillance camera footage inside the detention area.
- Allowing the family to access the full forensic report.
- Ensuring that the autopsy is conducted by a competent, neutral forensic authority to determine the precise cause of death and the nature of the injuries.
The committee emphasized that protecting the right to life and ensuring the safety of detainees are legal obligations borne by the authorities, and that any potential violations inside detention facilities must result in full accountability in accordance with the principles of the rule of law and human rights guarantees.
