The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the death of detainee El‑Sayed Mahmoud Ibrahim Abdel‑Aal, known as “El‑Sayed Abu Shaqra,” aged 58, inside Al‑Ahrar Hospital in the city of Zagazig on 21 April 2026, following a deterioration in his health during his detention.

According to a post published by lawyer El‑Sayed Khalaf on Facebook, the deceased had been detained since 2022, during which he was subjected to case recycling across multiple cases, the most recent being Police Report No. 16141 of 2024, Second Zagazig Police Station.

Available information indicates that the deceased suffered from a kidney disease and regularly underwent dialysis sessions before his health condition deteriorated during detention, necessitating his transfer to the hospital approximately one month prior to his death.

The body was buried at dawn last Thursday in his hometown of Qantir village, التابعة لمركز Faqous, Sharqia Governorate.

With this case, the number of deaths documented by the Committee for Justice since the beginning of 2026 inside prisons and detention facilities in Egypt has risen to 22 deaths, following the documentation of 60 deaths during 2025.
