Egypt: CFJ Documents Systematic Violations Against Political Detainees at Rehabilitation Center (4) in 10th of Ramadan City

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented urgent pleas from political detainees held at Rehabilitation Center (4) in the 10th of Ramadan City, revealing a series of systematic violations committed against them in the absence of oversight and accountability.

According to the testimonies received, detainees have been subjected to severe restrictions on family visits, including arbitrary denial of access and the mistreatment of relatives. The reports also highlighted the imposition of financial extortion practices inside the facility, which place an additional burden on families and serve as a further means of abuse.

CFJ also documented serious medical neglect, including the deliberate withholding of necessary healthcare, and the delay or denial of access to specialist doctors, despite the presence of medical conditions requiring urgent intervention—posing an immediate threat to the detainees’ health and wellbeing.

CFJ warned that the continuation of these practices poses grave risks to the lives of political detainees, stressing that the ongoing abuses at Rehabilitation Center (4) reflect a systematic pattern of violations, compounded by the absence of independent monitoring or effective accountability mechanisms.

The committee called for an urgent and independent investigation into the reported violations, and demanded full respect for the rights of political detainees, the provision of adequate medical care, and an end to all forms of restrictions and extortion inside detention facilities.
