The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented a serious deterioration in the health condition of political detainee Walid Ahmed Ragab Al‑Zendahi (49), held in New Valley Prison, amid the Prison Authority’s continued refusal to transfer him for necessary medical treatment following his forced transfer (taghreeb) from Minya Prison to the notorious Ward 4, known among detainees as the “death ward.”
According to the information received, Al‑Zendahi is suffering from severe worsening of chronic rectal bleeding, despite having undergone previous surgery. He is being completely deprived of medical care, including essential check‑ups, in a facility that lacks even the minimum requirements for medical treatment—putting his life at immediate risk.
According to CFJ, his family confirmed that all their attempts to secure his transfer to an external hospital have failed, after prison authorities rejected their requests, reportedly stating that “political detainees are not permitted treatment,” in a blatant violation of the right to health and medical care guaranteed by law.
CFJ holds the relevant authorities fully responsible for the safety and wellbeing of Walid Al‑Zendahi and calls for his urgent transfer to a properly equipped hospital to receive the treatment he requires. The committee further demands an end to the policy of medical neglect and forced transfers, which are systematically used as tools of abuse against political detainees and their families.
