Egypt: CFJ Documents Death of Political Detainee in Minya Prison Due to Medical Negligence and Calls for Investigation

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the death of political detainee Khaled Ibrahim Abdelsalam Ibrahim, known as Khaled Al-Abyad, aged 52, inside Minya Prison.

The detainee had been serving a life sentence since 2013 in the case widely known as the Helwan Police Station Break-In Case.

According to CFJ, the deceased suffered a severe health deterioration, including high blood pressure, intense tremors, and continuous vomiting. Fellow detainees knocked on cell doors seeking help, and he was eventually transferred to the prison hospital in critical condition, where he died hours later.

CFJ calls for an urgent and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Khaled Ibrahim Abdelsalam Ibrahim inside Minya Prison. The committee condemns the deliberate medical negligence by the prison administration and holds Egyptian authorities fully accountable for the incident.

CFJ stresses the need to guarantee detainees’ right to adequate medical care and to ensure accountability for violations, in line with international human rights standards ratified by Egypt.
