Egypt: CFJ Condemns National Security’s Torture of Young Man Sabry Shokry from Al-Warraq Island and the Refusal to Release Him, Demands Investigation and Accountability

The “Committee for Justice” (CFJ) has documented that the Egyptian National Security Agency tortured a young man from Al-Warraq Island in Giza’s Nile after refusing to release him despite his legal entitlement to do so.

CFJ reported that National Security refused to release Sabry Shokry after he had obtained a release order, despite having been acquitted in four different cases. Instead, he was subjected to torture, during which a part of his forehead (prayer mark) was forcibly removed, causing him a permanent disability.

Shokry was initially arrested during the events at Al-Fath Mosque in August 2013, following the dispersal of the Rabaa Al-Adawiya and Al-Nahda sit-ins. At the time of his arrest, he was only 16 years old.

CFJ strongly condemns this incident and demands an independent and transparent investigation into its circumstances, holding those responsible accountable, and preventing them from escaping justice.
