The Committee for Justice (CFJ) delivered an oral statement during the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council under Agenda Item 3, during the Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on minority issues.
In its statement, CFJ drew attention to ongoing patterns of violations affecting minority communities in both Egypt and Sudan.
CFJ highlighted the situation in North Sinai, where over 150,000 Bedouins have been forcibly displaced over the past decade, alongside reports of enforced disappearances, arbitrary detention, torture, and extrajudicial executions. It further raised concerns regarding the worsening conditions of the Bahá’í community in Egypt, including systemic discrimination linked to restrictions on religious affiliation in official documentation and the ongoing burial rights crisis.
The statement also addressed the situation in Darfur, where minority communities, including the Masalit, Fur, Bartee, and Zaghawa, continue to face grave violations, including killings, forced displacement, and widespread attacks attributed to the Rapid Support Forces and affiliated militias.
CFJ called for concrete measures to ensure the protection of minority communities, including safeguards against reprisals, legal recognition of minority rights, and inclusive participation in public life and transitional justice processes.
