Committee for Justice (CFJ) – weekly bulletin on developments in major human rights cases – Political trials calendar – (September 6–11, 2025)

As part of its continuous monitoring of the legal situation related to major human rights cases in Egypt, the Committee for Justice (CFJ) issues its weekly bulletin on updates of the most important cases. These are published within its Political Trials Calendar, created to facilitate the search for court session dates and recent developments in a simplified, accessible manner. 

 

This bulletin covers the period from September 6 to September 11, 2025, and includes the following cases: 

 

Case 1: Nour Al-Din Zenki Organization

  • Date: September 6, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr referred the file of the second defendant, Mohamed Abdel Ghaffar El-Saeidi, also known as Abu Assem, in Case No. 12459/2024 (El-Nozha criminal court), known in the media as the “Nour Al-Din Zenki Organization” affiliated with Jabhat Al-Nusra, to the Grand Mufti for his advisory opinion on his execution. The court set December 6, 2025, for the pronouncement of judgment.

Case 2: The Constitution of the Coup Group

  • Date: September 6, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr, presided over by Judge Mohamed El-Sayed El-Sharbini, postponed the trial of 10 defendants in Case No. 22698/2024 (First Settlement criminal court), known in the media as the “Constitution of the Coup Group,” to October 22, 2025, for pleadings.

Case 3: Joining a Terrorist Group in Fifth Settlement

  • Date: September 6, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr postponed the trial of 56 defendants in Case No. 12629/2024 (Fifth Settlement criminal court), accused of joining a terrorist group, to November 15, 2025, to hear witnesses.

Case 4: Trial of a Defendant for Spreading False News in Helwan

  • Date: September 6, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr postponed the trial of defendant Hoda Abdel Hamid Mohamed Ahmed, accused of spreading false news and rumors domestically and abroad, in Case No. 838/2025 (Helwan criminal court), to September 22, 2025, for pleadings.

Case 5: Rabaa Sit-In Dispersal

  • Date: September 6, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr reserved for judgment the retrial of defendant Mohamed Hosni Mohamed Megahed, who had been sentenced in absentia to 15 years’ imprisonment in the case known in the media as the “Rabaa Sit-In Dispersal.” The court set November 15, 2025, for the pronouncement of judgment.

Case 6: Joining Al-Qaeda in Agouza

  • Date: September 7, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr postponed the trial of defendant Ibrahim Abdel Hamid Ibrahim, accused of joining Al-Qaeda, in Case No. 115/2025 (Agouza criminal court), to November 18, 2025, for pleadings.

Case 7: The Army of Mohamed Group

  • Date: September 7, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr, presided over by Judge Mohamed El-Sayed El-Sharbini, postponed the trial of 3 defendants accused of joining the “Army of Mohamed Group,” affiliated with Al-Qaeda, in Case No. 759/2025 (El-Nozha criminal court), to November 18, 2025, per the previous decision.

Case 8: Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis Organization

  • Date: September 7, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr, presided over by Judge Mohamed El-Sayed El-Sharbini, postponed the trial of 24 defendants in Case No. 403/2025 (Zeitoun criminal court), known in the media as the “Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis Organization,” to November 16, 2025, to examine the testimony of the first prosecution witness.

Case 9: Taliban Group

  • Date: September 7, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr, presided over by Judge Mohamed El-Sayed El-Sharbini, postponed the trial of defendant Abdallah Mohamed Farouk Youssef, accused of joining the Taliban group affiliated with Al-Qaeda, in Case No. 6326/2025 (Maadi criminal court), to November 16, 2025, for inspection of evidence.

Case 10: The Brotherhood Administrative Committees

  • Date: September 7, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr postponed the trial of 70 defendants in Case No. 56/2025 (Nasr City Second criminal court), accused of joining a terrorist cell, to November 18, 2025, to hear witnesses.

Case 11: The Cabinet Events

  • Date: September 7, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr postponed the retrial of 9 defendants accused of violence, arson, and rioting during the incidents around the Cabinet, People’s Assembly, Shura Council, and Scientific Institute, in the case known in the media as the “Cabinet Events,” to November 16, 2025, to continue defense pleadings.

Case 12: Trial of Deputy Editor of Al-Diyar Newspaper for Running a Media Network Supporting the Brotherhood

  • Date: September 8, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr postponed the trial of Ahmed Abu Zeid El-Tonouby, Deputy Editor of Al-Diyar newspaper, and 6 others in Case No. 19782/2024 (Nasr City First criminal court), registered as No. 1654/2022 (Supreme State Security investigations), to December 8, 2025, for documents.

Case 13: Trial of Ahmed Mehran and 28 Others for Financing Terrorism

  • Date: September 8, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr postponed the trial of Ahmed Hussein Ibrahim Mehran, director of the International Academic Center for Leadership Preparation, and 28 others accused of financing terrorism and harming the national economy, in Case No. 15100/2024 (Nasr City First criminal court), registered as No. 444/2018 (Supreme State Security investigations), to November 17, 2025, to hear witnesses.

Case 14: Smuggling Brotherhood Members Abroad with Forged Papers

  • Date: September 8, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr, presided over by Judge Mohamed El-Sayed El-Sharbini, postponed the trial of 11 defendants accused of smuggling Brotherhood members abroad with forged documents, to November 17, 2025, to hear witnesses.

Case 15: Joining a Terrorist Group in Awsim

  • Date: September 8, 2025

  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr postponed the trial of 20 defendants in Case No. 23331/2024 (Awsim criminal court), accused of joining a terrorist group aiming to destabilize the country, to November 16, 2025, to hear witnesses.

Case 16: Financing Terrorism Pages on Social Media

  • Date: September 8, 2025

  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr postponed the trial of 8 defendants in Case No. 709/2025 (First Settlement criminal court), accused of spreading false news and financing terrorist pages on social media, to November 17, 2025, to hear witnesses.

Case 17: The Lone Wolves Cell

  • Date: September 9, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr, presided over by Judge Mohamed El-Sayed El-Sharbini, reserved for judgment the trial of defendant Islam Samir Mohamed Bakkar in Case No. 382/2024 (Supreme State Security felonies), registered as No. 11971/2024 (El-Warraq criminal court), known in the media as the “Lone Wolves Cell,” to November 17, 2025.

Case 18: Trial of Eight Defendants for Joining ISIS

  • Date: September 9, 2025

  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr postponed the trial of 8 defendants in Case No. 46/2025 (El-Nozha criminal court), accused of joining ISIS, to November 18, 2025, for review.

Case 19: ISIS Sinai 2

  • Date: September 9, 2025

  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr postponed the trial of 5 defendants in Case No. 4881/2024 (Sheikh Zayed Second criminal court), known in the media as “ISIS Sinai 2,” to November 16, 2025, for review.

Case 20: Tabligh and Daawa

  • Date: September 9, 2025

  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr postponed the trial of 8 defendants in Case No. 145/2025 (Mouski criminal court), accused of joining the “Tabligh and Daawa” group, to November 17, 2025, for pleadings.

Case 21: Espionage and Establishing the Free Army Group

  • Date: September 9, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr postponed the trial of 5 defendants in Case No. 21498/2024 (Talbeya criminal court), known in the media as the “Free Army Espionage Case,” to November 17, 2025, for evidence inspection.

Case 22: Joining Al-Qaeda (2025 Case)

  • Date: September 9, 2025

  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr postponed the trial of two defendants in Case No. 298/2025 (Al-Daher criminal court), accused of joining Al-Qaeda, to November 18, 2025, to obtain a travel certificate for the second defendant.

Case 23: The Independence Party Group

  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr postponed the trial of 43 defendants in Case No. 18706/2024 (Moqattam criminal court), known in the media as the “Independence Party Group,” to December 6, 2025, for defense requests.

Case 24: Trial of Five Businessmen Accused of Financing Terrorism

  • Date: September 9, 2025

  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr postponed the trial of 5 businessmen accused of financing terrorism in Case No. 578/2025 (Fifth Settlement criminal court), to September 22, 2025, for pleadings.
