Committee for Justice (CFJ) – weekly bulletin on developments in major human rights cases – Political trials calendar – (August 23–28, 2025)

As part of its continuous monitoring of the legal situation related to major human rights cases in Egypt, the Committee for Justice (CFJ) issues its weekly bulletin on updates of the most important cases. These are published within its Political Trials Calendar, created to facilitate the search for court session dates and recent developments in a simplified, accessible manner.

This bulletin covers the period from August 23 to August 28, 2025, and includes the following cases:

Case 1: The ISIS Delta Province

  • Date: August 23, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The second circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr postponed the trial of 9 high-risk defendants from terrorist groups in Case No. 379/2024 (Supreme State Security felonies), registered as No. 13552/2024 (Helwan criminal court), known in the media as the “Delta Province Terrorist Cell,” to September 13, 2025, to continue defense pleadings.

Case 2: Al-Nusra Front Organization II

  • Date: August 23, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The second terrorism circuit of the first degree criminal court postponed the trial of 6 defendants in Case No. 157/2025 (Sheikh Zayed Second criminal court), known in the media as “Al-Nusra Front Organization II,” to November 8, 2025, to hear witnesses.

Case 3: The Technical Committees Rooms

  • Date: August 23, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The second circuit of the first degree criminal court postponed the trial of 10 defendants in Case No. 22768/2024 (First Settlement criminal court), known in the media as “The Technical Committees Rooms,” to November 8, 2025, to hear witnesses.

Case 4: Trial of Four Defendants for Joining ISIS

  • Date: August 24, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The second terrorism circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr, presided over by Judge Wagdy Abdel Moneim, postponed the trial of 4 defendants in Case No. 83/2024 (Nasr City criminal court), on charges of joining ISIS, to September 28, 2025, to continue defense pleadings.

Case 5: The Revolutionary Council Organization – Brotherhood Administrative Structure

  • Date: August 24, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The second terrorism circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr, presided over by Judge Wagdy Abdel Moneim, postponed the trial of 50 defendants in Case No. 14739/2024 (Nasr City criminal court), known in the media as the “Brotherhood Administrative Structure,” to October 26, 2025, to hear witnesses.

Case 6: Trial of 24 Defendants for Joining the Muslim Brotherhood – Administrative Structure in Fifth Settlement

  • Date: August 24, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The second terrorism circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr, presided over by Judge Wagdy Abdel Moneim, postponed the trial of 24 defendants in Case No. 15071/2024 (Fifth Settlement criminal court), known in the media as the “Administrative Structure in Fifth Settlement,” to October 25, 2025, to hear witnesses.

Case 7: The Guerrilla Warfare Cell

  • Date: August 25, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The second circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr postponed the trial of 11 defendants accused of joining the entity called “Guerrilla Warfare” in Case No. 68534/2024 (Haram criminal court), to November 8, 2025, to hear witness testimony.

Case 8: The Freedom and Justice Party Committees

  • Date: August 25, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The second terrorism circuit of the first degree criminal court at Badr postponed the trial of 117 defendants affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood in Case No. 381/2024 (Supreme State Security felonies), registered as No. 9453/2024 (Omraneya criminal court), known in the media as “The Freedom and Justice Party Committees,” to November 8, 2025, as the defendants were not presented before the court from their detention.

Case 9: The U.S. Embassy Events

  • Date: August 25, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The second circuit of the first degree criminal court issued its judgment in the retrial of defendant Gamal El-Din Abdel Baky Ibrahim in Case No. 7238/2013 (Kasr El-Nil misdemeanors), known in the media as the “U.S. Embassy Events.” The court sentenced him to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment, ordered his placement under police surveillance for an equal period following his release, and required him to pay criminal expenses.

Case 10: Targeting Churches in Nasr City

  • Date: August 25, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The second terrorism circuit of the first degree criminal court issued its judgment in Case No. 19723/2024 (Nasr City First criminal court), concerning defendant Ayman El-Sayed Ibrahim El-Sayed, accused of targeting churches in Nasr City. The court sentenced him to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment, ordered his placement and ISIS on the lists of designated terrorist entities and individuals under Law No. 8/2015, and required his placement under police surveillance for 5 years following release, in addition to criminal expenses.

Case 11: The Suicide Operations Cell

  • Date: August 25, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The second circuit of the first degree criminal court acquitted 6 defendants in Case No. 4007/2025 (October First criminal court), known in the media as the “Suicide Operations Cell.” The acquitted defendants were: Mohamed Ezzat Taha Omran, Mostafa Abdo Abdel Rabbo Ghoneim, Mostafa Gomaa Ali Farmawi, Mohamed Nasr Abdel Hamid, Mostafa Ahmed Ali Shaaban, and Islam Wael Mohamed Ali Abdel Hafiz. The judgment was issued under the presidency of Judge Wagdy Abdel Moneim, with Judges Abdel Galil Moftah and Diaa Hamed Amer, and registrar Mohamed Hilal.

Case 12: The Brotherhood Central Media Committee

  • Date: August 26, 2025
  • Place: Badr courthouse complex
  • Proceedings: The first circuit of the first degree criminal court postponed the first hearing of the trial of 40 defendants in Case No. 15661/2024 (Nasr City First criminal court), known in the media as the “Brotherhood Central Media Committee,” which includes journalist Mohamed El-Qassas, Al-Diyar newspaper editor Ahmed El-Dessouky, journalist Ahmed El-Tonouby, Mostafa Nubi Abdallah, and others. They face charges of leading and joining a terrorist group, financing terrorism, and possessing cement balls with iron nails. The trial was postponed to September 23, 2025, for the defendants in custody to be presented before the court.
