Committee for Justice (CFJ) – weekly bulletin on developments in major human rights cases – Political Trials Calendar: August 2 – August 14, 2025

As part of its continuous monitoring of the legal situation related to major human rights cases in Egypt, the Committee for Justice (CFJ) issues its weekly bulletin on updates of the most important cases. These are published within its Political Trials Calendar, created to facilitate the search for court session dates and recent developments in a simplified, accessible manner.

 

This bulletin covers the period from August 2 until August 14, 2025, and includes the following cases:

1. Case: Revolutionary Guards

• Date of Session: August 2, 2025
• Location: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The Criminal Court (first degree) decided to reserve the retrial of Abdel Hamid Maher Abdel Hamid, accused of assuming leadership of a terrorist group known in the media as the “Revolutionary Guards,” for the session on November 15 to pronounce judgment.

2. Case: Islamic Front Organization

• Date of Session: August 2, 2025
• Location: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The First Circuit of the Criminal Court (first degree) adjourned the trial of three defendants, including a housewife, in the case known in the media as the “Islamic Front Organization,” Case No. 1320/2024 Fifth Settlement Criminal Court, registered as No. 52/2024 Supreme State Security Criminal Court, to October 4 for the report submission.

3. Case: International Organization of the Muslim Brotherhood

• Date of Session: August 2, 2025
• Location: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The First Circuit of the Criminal Court (first degree) adjourned the trial of 25 defendants in Case No. 268/2025 Fifth Settlement Criminal Court, known as the “International Organization of the Muslim Brotherhood,” to October 4 for review and preparation.

4. Case: ISIS Member Accused of Establishing and Leading a Terrorist Group

• Date of Session: August 2, 2025
• Location: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The First Circuit of the Criminal Court (first degree) reserved the case of an ISIS member accused of establishing, leading, and funding a terrorist organization, and possessing weapons, in Case No. 8316/2025 Bulaq al-Dakrour Criminal Court, for October 4 to pronounce judgment.

5. Case: Gulf Funding Network for the Muslim Brotherhood

• Date of Session: August 2, 2025
• Location: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The First Circuit of the Criminal Court (first degree) postponed the opening session of the trial of 92 defendants charged with joining the Gulf Funding Network for the Muslim Brotherhood, Case No. 20240/2024 Nozha Criminal Court, to October 8 for review and preparation.

6. Case: Targeting Border Guard Camp – al-Jabal al-Asfar

• Date: August 3, 2025
• Place: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The first circuit of the criminal court (first degree) adjourned the trial of nine defendants accused of targeting a border guard camp (Case No. 9687/2025 Ain Shams criminal court) to October 5 for the attendance of detained defendants.

7. Case: The Cell led by Yousry al-Samman

• Date: August 3, 2025
• Place: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The first circuit of the criminal court (first degree) adjourned the trial of 11 defendants accused of joining the cluster cell affiliated with leader Yousry al-Samman (Case No. 337/2025 First Settlement criminal court) to October 5 for defendants’ attendance.

8. Case: Terrorist Espionage Cell

• Date: August 3, 2025
• Place: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The first circuit of the criminal court (first degree) adjourned the trial of four defendants accused in the “Terrorist Espionage Cell” (Case No. 19856/2024 Nasr City First criminal court) to October 5 for defendants’ attendance.

9. Case: New Cairo Cell – Supreme Administrative Committee – Brotherhood Administrative Structure

• Date: August 3, 2025
• Place: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The first circuit of the criminal court (first degree) adjourned the trial of 22 defendants, including 18 detained and four fugitives, in the “New Cairo Terrorist Cell” case to October 7 for defendants’ attendance.

10. Case: Trial of Moataz Matar, Mohamed Nasser, and 8 Others – Siege and Random Shelling

• Date: August 4, 2025
• Place: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The first circuit of the criminal court adjourned Case No. 615/2020 (registered as 338/2025 First Settlement criminal court, to October because the defendants were not brought before the court from their place of detention.

11. Case: al-Nozha Events – ISIS al-Nozha

• Date: August 4, 2025
• Place: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The first circuit of the criminal court (first degree) adjourned Case No. 25507/2013 (al-Nozha felonies – retrial) to October 8, 2025 because the defendants were not brought before the court from their place of detention.

12. Case: Trial of 42 Defendants for Joining the Muslim Brotherhood

• Date: August 9, 2025
• Place: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The second circuit of the criminal court (first degree) adjourned the opening session of the trial of 42 defendants on charges of joining the Muslim Brotherhood and publishing false news, in Case No. 13492/2024 Fifth Settlement criminal court, to October 14 to hear witness testimony.

13. Case: ISIS Sinai 3

• Date: August 9, 2025
• Place: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The second circuit of the criminal court (first degree), presided over by Judge Wagdy Abdel Monem, adjourned the trial of 87 defendants accused of joining “ISIS Sinai 3,” in Case No. 17628/2024 Nasr City First, to October 11 to hear the witnesses.

14. Case: The Tagamoa (Fifth Settlement) Cell

• Date: August 9, 2025
• Place: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The second circuit of the criminal court (first degree) adjourned the trial of 73 defendants from “terrorist groups” in the case known in the media as the “Tagamoa Cell,” Case No. 11926/2022 Fifth Settlement felonies (registered as 1237/2022 New Cairo Prosecution and 627/2021 Supreme State Security), to October 13 to continue the pleadings.

15. Case: Alf Maskan Demonstrations

• Date: August 9, 2025
• Place: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The appeals chamber at the Badr courthouse complex, presided over by Judge Hamada al-Sawy, postponed the appeal filed by Ahmed Mohamed Abbas al-Metwally—the first and principal defendant in the “Alf Maskan Demonstrations,” Case No. 24885/2013 al-Nozha felonies, registered as 7353/2013 East Cairo criminal court—to September 14 for the appellant’s attendance from custody.

16. Case: Joining a Terrorist Group – al-Omraniya

• Date: August 9, 2025
• Place: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The appeals chamber postponed the appeal lodged by the defendant Sohaib Alaa al-Din Abdel Monem, 30, a graphic designer, against the first degree sentence of three years’ imprisonment on a charge of joining a terrorist group, in Case No. 10832/2023 al-Omraniya felonies, to September 13 for review.

17. Case: Yousry al-Samman’s Cluster Cell

• Date: August 9, 2025
• Place: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The appeals chamber at the Badr complex, presided over by Judge Hamada al-Sawy, postponed the appeals filed by four defendants in Case No. 5314/2023 (Hadayek al-Qobba), registered as No. 41/2023 State Security felonies and known as “Yousry al-Samman’s Cluster Cell,” to September 13 for pleadings. The appellants are: Mahmoud Ifraj Ahmed Abu Shanab (detained), Mahmoud Fouad Mohamed Badada (detained), Ayman Mostafa Ahmed Mohamed Abbas (detained), and Mabrouk Mohamed Mohamed Abu Ageen (aka Gaber Abu Ageen, detained).

18. Case: ISIS Heliopolis (Masr al-Gedida)

• Date: August 9, 2025
• Place: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The second circuit of the criminal court (first degree) adjourned the opening session of the trial of six defendants charged with joining ISIS in Case No. 4247/2025 Heliopolis felonies, to September 28 for review.

19. Case: Brotherhood Media Committees

• Date: August 10, 2025
• Place: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The second appeals chamber of the criminal court postponed the appeal of six defendants accused of joining a terrorist group, broadcasting false news that could disturb public peace, and funding terrorist groups, in the case known as the “Brotherhood Media Committees,” to September 14 to continue pleadings.

20. Case: Committees of the Affected

• Date: August 10, 2025
• Place: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The second circuit of the criminal court (first degree) adjourned the trial of 46 defendants from “terrorist groups” in Case No. 380/2024 Supreme State Security felonies, registered as No. 14874/2024 Agouza criminal court, known in the media as the “Committees of the Affected,” to October 14 for defense pleadings.

21. Case: Lone Wolves Cell

• Date: August 10, 2025

• Proceedings: The first circuit of the criminal court (first degree) adjourned the trial of defendant Islam Samir Mohamed Bakkar in Case No. 382/2024 Supreme State Security felonies, registered as 11971/2024 al-Warraq felonies, known in the media as the “Lone Wolves Cell,” to September 9 for defense pleadings, with continued detention of the defendant.

• Date: August 10, 2025

• Proceedings: The first circuit of the criminal court (first degree) adjourned the trial of defendant Islam Samir Mohamed Bakkar in Case No. 382/2024 Supreme State Security felonies, registered as 11971/2024 al-Warraq felonies, known in the media as the “Lone Wolves Cell,” to September 9 for defense pleadings, with continued detention of the defendant.

24. Case: Wolves of the Revolution Cell

• Proceedings: The second circuit of the criminal court (first degree) adjourned the trial of 29 defendants, including 9 women, accused of joining the “Wolves of the Revolution Cell,” Case No. 47/2025 al-Nozha felonies, to October 25 to hear witness testimony.

25. Case: Brotherhood Sabotage Committees

• Date: August 11, 2025
• Place: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The second circuit of the criminal court (first degree) adjourned the trial of 49 defendants in Case No. 14405/2024 Fifth Settlement felonies, known in the media as the “Brotherhood Sabotage Committees,” to October 27 as the defendants were not presented before the court from their detention.

26. Case: Targeting Police, Army, and Christians

• Date: August 11, 2025
• Place: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The second terrorism circuit of the criminal court (first degree) postponed the trial of 12 defendants in Case No. 785/2025 al-Maadi felonies, accused of targeting police, army, and Christian citizens, to October 28 for implementing court orders.

27. Case: Hazemoon Organization – al-Marg Cell

• Date: August 11, 2025
• Place: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The appeals chamber at the Badr courthouse complex adjourned the opening session of appeals filed by three defendants convicted of joining the Hazemoon Organization (terrorist group), including Abdel Karim Shehata, Ali Galal Mostafa, and Ahmed Abdel Latif al-Wazzan, to September 16 as the appellants were not presented before the court from their detention.

28. Case: Revolutionary Guards

• Date: August 11, 2025

• Proceedings: The appeals chamber at the Badr courthouse complex postponed the appeal of nine defendants convicted of leading and assuming roles in a terrorist group known in the media as the “Revolutionary Guards,” to September 13 to continue pleadings.

29. Case: al-Daher Violence Events

• Place: Badr Courthouse Complex
• Proceedings: The appeals chamber at the Badr courthouse complex rejected the appeals filed by defendants Wahid Abdel Latif Ibrahim (defendant no. 51 in the referral order) and Ahmed Hanafi Ahmed Mohamed (defendant no. 95 in the referral order) in Case No. 3480/2013 al-Daher misdemeanors, known in the media as the “al-Daher Violence Events,” and upheld the sentences issued against them by the criminal court.

30. Case: Ahrar Organization (Terrorist Group)

• Date: August 11, 2025

• Proceedings: The second circuit of the criminal court (first degree) adjourned the trial of 12 defendants in Case No. 19855/2024 Nasr City felonies, known in the media as the “Ahrar Organization,” to October 29 as one of the detained defendants was not presented before the court.

Case 31: Forgery in Official Documents for the Benefit of the Muslim Brotherhood

• Proceedings: The First Circuit of the First Degree Criminal Court adjourned the first hearing of the trial of 5 defendants, including a retired police officer and a fingerprint expert from El-Sharabeya Police Station, accused of forgery in official documents for the benefit of the Muslim Brotherhood, in Case No. 8237 of 2025 (El-Nozha Criminal Court), to October 5, 2025, for the appearance of the defendants before the court.

Case 32: Trial of Brotherhood Leader Yehia Moussa and 68 Members

• Session Date: August 11, 2025
• Venue: Badr Court Complex
• Proceedings: The Second Circuit of the First Degree Criminal Court postponed the first hearing of the trial of Brotherhood leader Yehia Moussa and 68 members of the group in Case No. 587 of 2025 (Fifth Settlement Criminal Court), known in the media as “The Brotherhood Hostile Operations,” to October 13, 2025, for review and preparation.

Case 33: El-Nozha Events – ISIS El-Nozha

Case 34: Trial of Moataz Matar, Mohamed Nasser, and 8 Others – Siege and Random Shelling

• Proceedings: The Second Circuit of the First Degree Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Wagdy Abdel Moneim, adjourned the trial of 22 defendants in the Al-Qaeda terrorist cell case, Case No. 475 of 2025 (Fifth Settlement Criminal Court), to October 25, 2025, for hearing witnesses’ testimony.

Case 38: Trial of Rabab El-Agroudi and 41 Defendants

• Session Date: August 12, 2025
• Venue: Badr Court Complex
• Proceedings: The First Circuit of the First Degree Criminal Court postponed the first hearing of the trial of Rabab El-Agroudi and 41 other defendants on charges of financing terrorism, in Case No. 4940 of 2025 (Fifth Settlement Criminal Court), to October 7, 2025, for review and preparation.

Case 39: “Agent Zero”

• Proceedings: The First Circuit of the First Degree Criminal Court postponed the first hearing of the trial of Anas Ghazlan, son of Brotherhood leader Mahmoud Ghazlan, and 61 others in Case No. 4662 of 2025 (Fifth Settlement Criminal Court), known as “The Brotherhood Economic Committees,” to October 8, 2025, as the defendants were not presented before the court from their detention.

Case 41: Trial of 117 Defendants in a Brotherhood-Affiliated Terrorist Organization

• Session Date: August 12, 2025
• Venue: Badr Court Complex
• Proceedings: The Second Circuit of the First Degree Criminal Court postponed the first hearing of the trial of 117 defendants in a terrorist organization affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, in Case No. 18599 of 2024 (Nasr City First Criminal Court), to October 28, 2025, for review and preparation for pleading, at the request of the defense.
