    On January 15, 2023, the Fourth Circuit (Terrorism) of the Supreme State Security Emergency Criminal Court, held at Tora Courthouse, sentenced the defendant Mohamed Ali to life imprisonment, along with 37 others. Five defendants were sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, and 16 defendants were sentenced to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    The court also acquitted 21 individuals, sentenced 4 defendants to 10 years of imprisonment, 8 others to 5 years, and 11 defendants to 15 years of imprisonment.       The First Circuit (Terrorism) of the Supreme State Security Emergency Criminal Court, held at Badr Courthouse, had previously issued its verdict in the trial of the contractor Mohamed Ali and 102 other co-defendants on charges of spreading false news that could affect national security and joining a group established in violation of the law and the constitution. This group is the \u201cterrorist organization The Muslim Brotherhood,\u00a0\u00bb in the case known in the media as \u00ab\u00a0The Joker.\u00a0\u00bb The court sentenced 38 defendants, including the contractor Mohamed Ali, to life imprisonment. Five defendants were sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, 16 defendants to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment, and 21 defendants were acquitted. Twenty-three individuals were sentenced to imprisonment terms ranging from 5 years to 15 years. The court ordered the defendants sentenced to probation under police supervision for five years, starting from the expiration of their monetary penalties, except for the defendants who were sentenced to pay criminal expenses. The court also ordered the confiscation of firearms, white weapons, ammunition, and seized tools.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      The State Security Prosecution charged the defendants in the Joker case with committing crimes related to joining a terrorist group established against the provisions of the law with the aim of undermining the constitution and laws, obstructing the state’s institutions and authorities from performing their duties, and spreading false news about the political and economic situation in the country to disrupt public peace.
