    Case Summary<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The origins of the case trace back to the security campaign carried out by the Ministry of Interior in several residential areas in south Cairo and Giza. This followed the release of a video clip broadcasted via social media and \u00ab\u00a0YouTube\u00a0\u00bb in 2014 titled \u00ab\u00a0Helwan Brigades: We are tired of the Muslim Brotherhood’s peacefulness\u00a0\u00bb. In the video, a group of young men were shown brandishing firearms, threatening army and police forces, warning them against ongoing brutality and claiming they were all targets. The video ends with the chant \u00ab\u00a0No peace with the interior ministry\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n

    Following this, police forces arrested around one hundred and fifty suspects starting from June 2014. The defendants in the case faced various charges, and they were accused of several terrorist incidents which were incorporated into the case. These include: sabotaging an emergency police vehicle in Helwan, damaging the Helwan traffic department building and stealing its contents, destroying the Tenth District police checkpoint, attempting to kill police forces around the Helwan police station, attempting to murder police forces in Arab Ghanim area, killing police forces near Al-Azhar University, murdering the recruit Mostafa Khalil Jad, killing three recruits in front of Al-Azhar University, murdering police officer Ramadan Fayez, killing Captain Mostafa Mohsen, attempting to kill two policemen from the Arab Al-Walidah police point, possessing explosives and detonating them at Al-Basha cafe in Helwan, attacking the administrative security officials of the university city affiliated to Al-Azhar University, destroying the Helwan district building, detonating an explosive device near the Hakr tunnel in Tebin, destroying a public bus, and damaging a gas room in the Arab Al-Hisar maritime area.<\/p>\n

    Additionally, there were incidents of sabotaging electricity transmission towers in the following areas: (Al-Kuraimat Line\/Al-Basateen – Al-Akhsas Village – Al-Laithi Line\/Al-Kuraimat – Atfih – Al-Akhsas Village – Al-Tabin\/Al-Kuraimat Line – Abu Zayed and Gharb Al-Namayra Areas)<\/p>\n

    The Supreme State Security Prosecution began its investigations with the defendants in the case, totaling 215 according to the referral order, with 126 of them being detained, following the investigation records drafted by the National Security and Helwan police stations, El-Saff, Atfeeh, and Tebeen. The investigations were initiated by Captain Tawfiq Mustafa, an officer in the National Security Sector, on June 11, 2014.<\/p>\n

    On February 19, 2015, Counselor Tamer Farjani, the Senior Public Prosecutor of the Supreme State Security, issued his decision to refer the case number 451 for the year 2014, supreme state security, to the competent criminal court with number 29 for the year 2015, supreme state security criminal.<\/p>\n

    The referral order accused 215 defendants, with 126 of them being detained, of various charges. The first trial sessions for the defendants commenced in August 2015, before the 15th Circuit. In a surprising turn, in November 2019, the case under report was attributed to the Cairo Criminal Court, Terrorism Circuit\/ First\u00a0Circuit<\/span>, chaired by Judge Mohamed Sherin Fahmy. The trial sessions continued until January 30, 2022, when the court decided to refer the papers of 10 defendants to the Mufti for his opinion on their execution, setting the session of June 19 for the verdict announcement.<\/span><\/p> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n
