The UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution establishing an international commission of inquiry to investigate all alleged violations and abuses of international human rights law committed in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and in Israel, since April 13, 2021.
A statement issued by the council’s media center clarified that this decision was adopted at the end of a one-day special session of the council on “grave human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem”
The statement indicated that the resolution was adopted by a vote of 24 in favour, 9 against and 14 abstentions.
The Council called on all concerned parties to fully cooperate with and facilitate the access of this commission of inquiry, urging all states to refrain from transferring arms to the concerned parties because of the clear risk that these weapons could be used to commit or facilitate grave violations or abuses against international human rights law.
